Preparing For A Visit To The Doctor
Pap smear? Pelvic exam? Po
lycystic ovary syndrome? Poly-QUE!? We Latinas love to take care of our families. But who's taking care of us? Maybe asking mami about our lady parts is a pecado mortal, or maybe we are too shy to ask about that itch that just won't go away. We diagnose amongst ourselves and believe la prima that says she's going through the same thing but tells you that its common, not to worry, and that it will go away on its own.
Write down any symptoms you're experiencing - mood swings, forgetfulness, headaches, etc.
Write down key personal information - It is not the time to be shy, girls! Pretend you are chismoseando with your girlfriend at home and write it ALL down, such as any changes in your menstrual cycle or your sex life.
Make a list of all medications you're taking - this includes any vitamins and supplements, even those over the counter.
Write down questions to ask your doctor - don't know where to begin? Here are some great starters:
- What could be causing my symptoms or condition?
- What kinds of tests should I have done?
- What kinds of treatments are available for my symptoms or condition?
- Will I experience any side-effects?
- Are there specialists I should see?
Prepare yourselves, speak up, y cuidense!
